Magnetic Resonance Imaging

Tests performed with MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) allow physicians to view areas of the body with amazing clarity.

At Paradise Valley Hospital, we have put an emphasis on patient comfort as well as technical success. A large skylight and very pleasant surroundings create a relaxed atmosphere for patients undergoing MRI exams. The MRI scanner at Paradise Valley Hospital is roomy and may offer relief to those patients who have a fear of confined spaces.

Common Questions About MRI

What is an MRI?

Magnetic Resonance Imaging is one of the most advanced technologies, developed for examining the structure, tissue, and fluids within the human body. It has the ability to create precise images that are nearly as sharp as if a physician was looking at them in surgery.

How does it work?

MRI produces two-dimensional images using a powerful magnet and radio waves. MRI does not use X-Rays, so there is no radiation exposure.

What Can MRI Scan?
  • MRI can see right through bone to image, tissues, organs and fluids such as blood.
  • To date, MRI has been particularly valuable in scanning the brain and spine. Through brain and spine scans, MRI can detect multiple sclerosis in its earliest stages, tumors, brain and spine disease and fluid in the skull. Heart scans can show plaque build up in arteries. Cancer and other diseases can be detected in the kidneys.
  • New techniques and clinical uses are continually being developed and tested.
