Caring for Mind, Body and Spirit

Anger. Grief. Depression. Anxiety. Loss.

All of us experience these emotions at some time in our lives. But for some people, trauma or stress can trigger serious emotional or behavioral problems. Others find their lives turned upside-down by chemical dependency and substance abuse. These problems, whether mild or severe, can be treated by Paradise Valley Hospital Behavioral Health Services.

Individualized Treatment

We offer a full continuum of care, which includes inpatient hospitalization, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient services and clubhouse programs. Patients entering our programs receive a full psychiatric evaluation, a chemical dependency assessment (as needed) and a complete medical and physical examination. Our goal is to help men and woman from young adulthood through their senior years to learn the most effective ways to confront the problems they face in their daily lives.

Following evaluation and assessment, the treatment team joins with the patient and his or her primary care physician in designing an individualized treatment plan. These plans serve as a road map for care within a hospital setting or on an outpatient basis. We strive to involve our patients as active participants in their own care.

An Expert Team

Treatment is offered by a team of healthcare professionals including:

  • Staff Physicians Board-certified in Psychiatry
  • Registered Nurses
  • Licensed Therapists
  • Certified Chemical Dependency Counselors
  • Occupational and Recreational Therapy Therapists
  • Licensed Vocational Nurses, Psychiatric Technicians and Mental Health Workers
  • Psychiatric Social Workers

The physician directs the team with input from staff, family members and patients themselves. This team approach offers the greatest opportunity for successful change and renewal.

Inpatient Care in a Supportive Setting

Designed for adults in need of short-term crisis stabilization, inpatient hospitalization offers professional care in a soothing environment. In this setting, there is a total focus on recovery away from the distractions of work and home. It is our goal to return the individual to a less restrictive environment as soon as possible. Our team approach to treatment offers the greatest opportunity for successful change and renewal.

Making the Transition

Our Outpatient & Partial Hospitalization Services offer full-day or half-day treatment, with patients returning to their place of residence. These services are appropriate for individuals who show improvement in their overall mental well-being, and are ready to explore greater involvement in the community. At the same time, they continue to receive supportive care from the treatment team they have come to know and trust.

The Well-being of Older Adults

As we grow older, mental health complications sometime arise due to poor physical health, a loss of functioning or the side effects of medication. At Paradise Valley Hospital, our Behavioral Health Services program provides a comprehensive approach to care for seniors supervised by a physician skilled in geriatric psychiatry. And, as a full-service psychiatric program in a medical/surgical hospital, we can fully meet the mental and physical needs of our older patients.

A Safe, Healing Environment

Paradise Valley Hospital's Behavioral Health Services is accredited by JCAHO (Joint Commission Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations), the organization that sets the standards for care across the United States. Our psychiatric, medical and nursing staff is trained to care for patients in a safe, non-judgmental, healing environment.
